Read a Book

Coronavirus has shut down the entire world. You have extra time now. Read a book – or listen to it. I haven’t listened to this one so I can’t personally recommend it. It was recommended by CPA Practice Advisor in today’s email. The reviews were mostly good. Low ratings were for repetitiveness caused by giving multiple examples. The point of that would be creating one that resonates with a reader. It does come in Audible format. I agree with the premise.

Today people are being taught to contort themselves into the widget shapes required by someone else’s big machine. If that “someone else” doesn’t tell them to learn a particular thing, sit them down, and spoonfeed them the information, they don’t expand mentally in any way – except for entertainment. That people still seem capable of doing for themselves although they look to what is trendy to dictate their tastes.

Either members of our species are going to degenerate to the status of mere tools – completely interchangeable as the McDonald Bros and Ray Kroc envisioned when they first set up the systems at McDonald’s or they are going to have to learn to self-educate – and that requires something besides binge-watching the latest thing on Netflix.

Tools have no value unless someone else is using them – you can be a tool or a person who uses tools. The choice is up to each of us.
